Seatrout is one of my favorite inshore species to target from my kayak.  My favorite place to fish for them is Gasparilla Sound, located by Boca Grande.  This bay area is loaded with sea grass that the trout like to swim and feed in.  Anytime you are targeting trout look for tall sea grass with patches of sandy bottom.  the Redfish also like this habitat during low tide.  At high tide the Redfish like to hang out in the mangroves along the shoreline and around oyster bars.

The most popular way to catch trout for beginners and experienced anglers is using live shrimp under a popping cork, preferably a brand called Cajun Thunder.

Trout can also be caught with a variety of artificial lures.  Mirrorlures, soft plastic like Z-Man paddle tails, one of my favorites, and topwater plugs.  Catching them on topwater plugs is my favorite way to catch them.

On my kayak fishing charters I target trout primarily, but also try for Redfish and Snook.  In a kayak, the trout are easier to target and usually for plentiful.
